The Lung Association of Saskatchewan as been helping the residents of Saskatchewan to breathe a little easier since 1911. It was during that time in our history that tuberculosis was posing a serious threat to lung health. As the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League, we operated three sanatoria in the province to help care for people affected by this illness.
Over the years, the needs of our population have changed and the Association has changed to meet those emerging needs. Today, as The Lung Association of Saskatchewan, their mission now includes the fight against many different lung diseases, as well as environmental threats to the lungs.
Our Association provides desperately needed dollars for cutting edge lung health research in Saskatchewan. We are committed to providing top notch education, patient support, and community services in the areas of asthma, COPD (which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis), lung cancer, sleep apnea, pneumonia, and other diseases of the lungs.
Here are some startling statistics:
Our Lungs are the part of our body most exposed to the environment and the first organ affected by air quality. we breathe in approximately half a litre of air every time we take a breath and we do that approximately 12 times a minute. This equates to 360 litres of air per hour!
